Overview
Humayun's Tomb is one of the most beautiful historical monuments of Delhi. It is the mausoleum of Mughal emperor Nasiruddin Humayun and is considered the first grand Mughal mausoleum in India.
This monument was built by Humayun's wife Bega Begum in the 16th century. Its architecture is considered to be the inspiration for the later Taj Mahal.
Humayun's Tomb is built of red sandstone and white marble. Its huge dome and symmetrical structure make it extremely grand.
The monument is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is popular with history lovers as well as photographers.
A useful visit balances the principal tomb with time in the garden setting and the smaller buildings along your chosen route. If photography is your priority, plan pauses without blocking steps or doorways. Treat a visit to nearby Sunder Nursery as a separate decision rather than assuming both places share one admission or closing time.
