1Leh Palace

Leh Palace is a 17th-century nine-storey royal palace built by King Sengge Namgyal. Modeled on the Potala Palace in Lhasa, it overlooks the entire town of Leh and the Indus Valley. The Archaeological Survey of India maintains the palace, and it houses a small museum of Ladakhi royal artefacts.

2Shanti Stupa

Shanti Stupa is a white-domed Buddhist stupa built in 1991 on a hilltop at 4,267 meters. Built by Japanese monk Nagazomi Nagasaki to promote world peace, it offers a 360-degree panorama of the Leh valley, the Indus River, and the surrounding Karakoram and Zanskar ranges. Best visited at sunset.

3Hemis Monastery

Hemis Monastery is the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh, established in the 17th century by Stagsang Raspa Nawang Dorje. Located ~45 km from Leh, in a hidden gorge, it houses rare thangkas, statues, and stupas, as well as a giant thangka of Guru Padmasambhava that is unveiled every 12 years. The Hemis Festival (June–July) is Ladakh's most celebrated event.

4Thiksey Monastery

Thiksey Monastery is a 12-story complex built on a steep hill ~20 km east of Leh, often compared in appearance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It houses a magnificent 15-metre seated statue of the Maitreya Buddha (Future Buddha) and is one of the most photogenic monasteries in Ladakh.

Magnetic Hill is a gravity hill located ~30 km from Leh on the Leh–Kargil–Srinagar highway. How to Reach Leh

Two road routes: Srinagar–Leh Highway (~434 km, 2 days via Kargil, open April–November) and Manali–Leh Highway (~490 km, 2 days, open late May–October). Find hotels in Leh for guesthouses and heritage stays.
There is no railway line to Leh. The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi (~700 km). Flying from Delhi is the most practical option.
Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh connects to Delhi, Mumbai, Srinagar, and Jammu. Flights are weather-dependent. Book in advance, especially for summer peak season.
